Sonya Blair started out at Richard and Joseph and graduated from Barron Beauty School in 1984. Her first job was at the Glamourama Beauty Shop, under the direction of Leora Franklin. Sonya worked there for 2 ½ years, until she decided to take over her Aunt Bessie Lou Hill’s beauty shop in 1987. The name of this salon was Beauty Break has been open since the direction of Mrs. Blair.
Sonya has had many accomplishments in the hair industry and holds several certifications as a representation of her dedication to her craft. She received her first gold pin for Dudley cosmetics sales in the 90’s and became an East Texas Area Diamond Member with Dudley products in the early 2000’s. She has been a Technician/Educator for, and supporter of, Jade Simone products for over 20 years. In 2013, Sonya became a Certifies Non-surgical Hair Replacement Specialist under the direction Tony Love. In this capacity, she assists clients who suffer from permanent hair loss with realistic custom units for extended daily wear. She is a Certified Professional Stylist with the Brazilian Blowout & BASIC - One Step System. Sonya is a Lifetime Member Strathmore’s Who’s Who Honors.
Her work has been features in Pulse Tyler Magazine, Tyler Courier Times, Hair Revolution Volumes 3 & 4, and TLC Magazine.
Helen Daniel has been in business in the hair and beauty industry for over 30 years. She attended Beauty School in Crockett, TX at Graham’s Beauty School. After completion, she married and moved to Tyler, TX. Helen worked as a stylist at Creation Unlimited for six years before opening her first salon in partnership with Marie Browning, then went on to open her second salon Preferred Styles over 15 years and then a third salon, Beyond Preferred Styles, in partnership with Mrs. Ann Reed. After maintaining success for 3 years, Helen became a hairstylist at Beauty Break Hair Salon.
Ayesha Tennyson finished cosmetology school in 2008, with a degree from Star College and soon began working professionally as a stylist. She began doing hair as a little girl in middle school. Ayesha began her career at Regis, then Smartstyles, before finding her current home at Beauty Break Salon. She specializes in braids, Locs, color and cut, and weaving. Ayesha enjoys being a stylist and loves “to make the world a more beautiful place by putting smiles on people’s faces through beautification.”
Marsha Clay is an innovative citywide cosmetologist in Tyler, Texas, where she has been styling hair since 1981. Marsha owned her own salon, Marsha’s Place for 20 years. She was confident an early age that this was her passion. When asked why she chose this industry, she said, “I enjoy making women and men feel beautiful, happy and pampered!” Marsha is educated in and loves all aspects of Hair Design and hair care; it doesn’t get old or feel like work to her. Every day is different and she enjoys meeting new people and making them leave the salon feeling truly confident. Marsha is now working at Sonya’s Beauty Break Salon. When she is not styling clients, she enjoys attending church, playing Family Feud, Bid Wiz, reading and exercising.
